Welcome to My Personal Page
Please join me and support Cure SMA by making a contribution to my personal fundraising page for the 2016 Philadelphia Rock and Roll Half Marathon.
SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) is the number one genetic cause of death for infants, and approximately 1 in every 50 individuals is a genetic carrier for SMA.
Making a donation to Cure SMA is easy, secure and completely confidential. Just click on the link and follow the steps!
Thank you again for your personal gift to support my efforts to fund vital research and family support programs for those affected by SMA.
My Personal Web Log
How little I know...
Over the last 2 months on each training run as my thoughts wandered I tried to mindful of why I was running.
If there was a theme to my web of thoughts it was how little I really understand about having a disability. As an example, how much have you ever thought about curb cuts? If I'm being honest not very much... until I learned about SMA.
A few weeks back, I spent just one day only using curbs cuts, ramps, elevators etc... to get around. If I couldn't take a wheelchair up or a walker I had to find another way. I suggest you try it...
It's only one example and frankly it's a G version movie. Too many with disabilities are living in an R-rated movie. Progress has been made but we are too far from being inclusive as we should be.

I recently reviewed the participants perks for running the 1/2 marathon for which there are several notable; a t-shirt, a medal, a complimentary Michelob ULTRA beer at the finish line, and most importantly the potential for a dignified ride on the "sag wagon" shuttle to move forward on the course in the event my pace falls below the course time limit.
As a result, I have decided the there should be a perk for donating to help me meet my fundraising goal.
For the person that makes the largest single donation, you can pick my race day outfit.
As it stands now, my personal $50 donation has me running in a pair of grey nike running shorts and a blue dry-fit running t-shirt. Be the highest donor and you could have me running in.... well I really don't want to think about it....

Thank you for visiting my personal webpage. I hope you will join me in helping to fund research and family support programs for those affected by SMA.
I've stared at this page for the last hour trying to figure out what to write. You would think that it would be easy to explain why you are fundraising for a cause. However, it really could not be further from the truth. Four years ago I had never heard of SMA. How could I possibly try and explain what I have learned since?
So today, I won't.
What I will say, is that SMA has helped me to self reflect, and that is something that we should all do more often.
In the coming weeks I will share my thoughts leading up to the race. I promise no posts about tempo runs, speedwork or photos of my food.
Join the village,
